GMC Sierra 1500 Oil Type

The GMC Sierra 1500 oil type depends on the engine you choose for your pickup. With a gasoline engine, we recommend SAE 5W-30 Dexos1 full synthetic oil. If you want protection for lower temperatures that might dip below 20 degrees, as we get every year in ID, consider 0W-30 oil to make sure it stays fluid in extremely cold temperatures.

With the powerful Duramax turbodiesel engine in your GMC truck, use SAE 0W-20 DexosD diesel engine oil. We suggest this specially made oil because diesel engines are configured differently than gasoline engines. You’ll need more protection for the heavy-duty pistons inside the diesel engines.
